Pune: The much awaited new terminal building of the Pune airport located at Lohegaon will be constructed within 30 months as the tender has been given to Mumbai-based ITD Cementation India Ltd on Saturday. The company put in lowest bid of Rs 358 crore.
The work is expected to get over by 2021 and the airport will have the capacity to handle passenger traffic of 20 million per year. The new terminal building is expected to increase the number of flights, including short distance international flights to south-east Asian countries.
Ajay Kumar, Airport Director, told Sakal Times, “The tender of the ultra modern terminal building which will have state-of-art facilities has been given to ITD Cementation India Ltd on Saturday. The lowest bid was called by the company among the eight top listed company.”
“Eight companies had participated in the bidding including Tata Projects Limited, Shapoorji Pallonji and Company Private Limited, Hindustan Construction Company Private limited, Ahluwalia Consracts (India) L&W Constructions, Harsh Constructions and NCC Limited apart from ITD Cementation,” said Kumar.
“The bid submitted by ITD Cementation India which was lowest among the bidders who vied for the contract was accepted on Friday. It’s a very important project for the city as until the new airport planned in Purandar gets ready, the Lohegaon Airport with its increased capacity can serve the purpose,” said Anil Shirole, Pune MP, who also heads the Airport Advisory Committee (AAC) for Pune Airport.
“We are expecting that the new building which will see its integration with one existing, will be completed with 30 months from the start of construction,” Shirole said.
The construction of terminal building, which will be 42,000 sq mt, has a budget of Rs 400 crore. A Project Management Consultant was appointed in May 2017 and tendering work for the new integrated terminal building is in process. It will take 24 months to complete the project. EGIS India had been appointed as consultants for the project and had presented the final design of the building which has been approved by the AAI in May. On Wednesday, a public hearing was held in connection with the environmental clearance for the project.
Ajay Kumar, while stating that the new building will be GRIHA-4 compliant, had said that they were expecting the clearance to come within a month after which the actual construction of the project will begin.
