Tejaswini bus service by PMPML is a big hit in city

PUNE: The Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Ltd’s (PMPML) new bus service ‘Tejaswini’, exclusively meant for women passengers, generated Rs 3.96 crore in a year after its launch. ‘Tejaswini’ was introduced on International Women’s Day (March 8) last year.

As per the data provided by PMPML officials, 33.12 lakh women passengers used this service in the past year.

“The Tejaswini bus was introduced only for women last year. Only 33 buses were launched on International Women’s Day. We have six more buses introduced recently and 27 will arrive within two months. The service is getting a good response. The revenue is much higher than our expectations,” said PMPML spokesperson Subhash Gaikwad.

As per data provided by the officials, “On an average, 9,829 women travel by Tejaswini buses daily on 13 different routes. The number of buses will increase by 66 and will run on other routes also after 27 more buses join the fleet. The buses generate Rs 36.48 lakh monthly income for the transport body.”

“We have added six Tejaswini buses taking the number to 33, while 27 more buses will be added by end of March. We are hopeful that we can add more buses to the fleet every month. The Tejaswini bus service is providing comfort to women passengers. We are trying that more women should travel on this bus safely,” said PMPML Chairman and Managing Director Nayana Gunde.
