Techie loses Rs 1.24 lakh in online fraud

PUNE: A 34-year-old software engineer was cheated to the tune of Rs 1.24 lakh by an unidentified fraudster while trying to buy a television set on an online platform. The victim lodged a case of cheating with the Hadapsar police station.

As per the case, while the victim was trying to surf for online offers on television sets, he came across an offer on Bargain Bros site which assured five free television sets on the purchase of one set. The victim fell into the trap and paid Rs 35,000 to buy the set. However he was later informed that he will have to pay Rs 89,000 more to claim the other television sets. The victim did as instructed, but did not receive the television sets. He then approached the police. 

Police Inspector Ramesh Sathe is investigating the case.
