System developed to treat sewage water

Pune: Prof Rajendra Saraf of Viraj Envirozing India Pvt Ltd has recently patented his research, Deep Tank Aeration System for the treatment of sewage water. The system has been developed to recycle and reuse the sewage water on a smaller scale. Saraf has claimed that close to 30 to 40 per cent drinking water can be saved if sewage water is treated and reused.

Saraf said, “This system needs a very small space and recycling water this way saves a lot of energy and money. Also, setting this up doesn’t require any skilled workforce. The recycled water can be used for your toilets, gardens or even for washing your vehicles. The system is installed in a few societies in Katraj, Market Yard and  Ambegaon.”

The cost of the system ranges from Rs 2.3 lakh to 4.3 lakh and the maintenance per month is in the range of Rs 14,000 to 24,000. He also added that water of the capacity of around 15 tankers can be reused every month with the help of this system. More than 150 such systems are presently operating in and around Pune. “We are planning to submit a proposal to the PMC regarding the use of this system across the residential societies in the city. This kind of recycling system could be implemented very efficiently in the ‘Smart City’ project. Also, it will reduce the load on PMC’s sewage water treatment plants,” Saraf added.
