Pune: Water Resources Minister Girish Mahajan on Monday put to rest speculation that he may take charge as Pune District Guardian Minister. With this development, the question of who will be the next guardian minister for Pune district remains open.

After winning the Pune Lok Sabha elections, Girish Bapat conducted a press conference on Friday and said that Pune district will get a competent guardian minster. He said he will soon submit his resignation as Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA).

When Sakal Times contacted Mahajan and asked him about the Pune District Guardian Minister’s post, he laughed and said, “I am very busy now. Ahead of the Assembly polls, I have to concentrate on Jalgaon district. I have given commitment to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to get elected more BJP candidates in North Maharashtra region. I don’t have time. The post will be given to a BJP minister only.”

At present, Minister of State for Social Justice Dilip Kamble and Minister of State for Water Resource Vijay Shivtare are both from Pune district. However, Shivtare belongs to the Shiv Sena. Meanwhile, another name emerging for the post is that of Revenue Minister Chandrakant Patil. He is another minster close to Fadnavis. During Lok Sabha election, the party gave him responsibility of Baramati Lok Sabha constituency.  He is active in western Maharashtra and considered to be another strong contender for the post.
