Sunday remains cool with some light showers in city

Pune: Though some parts of the city enjoyed rainfall on Sunday evening, many parts witnessed a dry spell with cooler winds. Deccan, Shivajinagar, Keshav Nagar, Mundhwa, Manjari and Katraj, reported rainfall on Sunday while there slight drizzles in Aundh and Hadapsar.

Unlike Saturday, the absence of rains during the day disappointed many Puneites on Sunday, despite cloudy weather.

Pune reported maximum day temperature of 39.9 degrees Celsius while the minimum night temperature was 20 degrees Celsius.

However, the light drizzle on Saturday and the windy morning on Sunday lowered the afternoon heat.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), in Pune, the sky would remain cloudy till April 17. The day temperature is expected to rise to 40 degrees Celsius with clear skies post that.

The IMD has forecasted that isolated parts of central Maharashtra, Marathwada, Vidarbha, Konkan and Goa may witness thunderstorms and rainfall till April 16. These thunderstorms and squalls will continue in Vidarbha till April 16, after which the weather in the State shall remain dry. 

National scenario 
On Sunday, heatwave conditions were observed in isolated pockets over south-west Madhya Pradesh. Thunderstorms were also observed at a few places over Assam, Meghalaya and at isolated places over Bihar on Sunday morning. 

The highest maximum temperature recorded over the plains was 45.2 degrees Celsius in Khargone in west Madhya Pradesh. 

IMD predicted that thunderstorms accompanied by squall and lightning are likely in some areas over the Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha, Jharkhand and Bihar till April 18. 

According to IMD, thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds and lightning are likely over coastal Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, south interior Karnataka and Kerala till April 18.
