Sunburn Music Festival faces protests in the city

Pune: Yet again the protests against Sunburn Music Festival are growing louder with advocate Rahul Mhaske of Pune City Dahi Handi and Ganeshostav co-ordination committee threatening to smear the face of Chairman and Managing Director of Percept Limited, the organisers of the music fest, Harinder Singh if he fails to cancel the event. Apparently, Sunburn will be held from December 29 to 31 at Oxford Golf Resort in Bavdhan.

While speaking to media persons here on Friday at Pune Union of Working Journalists (PUWJ), Mhaske alleged, “The government and police strictly implement the audio levels and closure time during festivals like Ganeshostav and Dahi Handi while all rules are flouted for Sunburn. He added that this ‘double standard’ attitude of the government was owing to the revenue generation.”

The event was opposed by various sections of the society as allegedly the youngsters indulge in obscenity, drugs and liquor. He said, “The organisation has already approached Hinjawadi and Paud police stations requesting them to deny permission to Sunburn. They will soon approach the Narcotics Department too.”

He further said that the festival may be sabotaged as per information of Anti-Terrorist Squad. Last year, the site was changed twice (Pimpri-Chinchwad to Viman Nagar to finally, Bavdhan) due to protest by locals citing cultural reasons. Last year too, the committee had opposed the event, though the attempt failed.
