Pune: Around 500 professors teaching in different colleges under Sinhgad Technical Education Society (STES) protested outside the main STES office in Erandwane over the delay in salary payments.
More than 5,000 professors of the group have been protesting against the management for nearly two months now, claiming that they haven’t received their salaries for around 16 months now.
“Our most pressing demand continues to be the payments of our dues as soon as possible as we are facing tremendous financial difficulties. While even the non-teaching staff, students and parents have supported our cause, we aren’t getting any kind of positive response from the management and hence, we decided to protest in front of President MN Navale’s office,” Sachin Shinde, a former employee of one of the institutes of STES said.
Shinde said that due to the protests, Navale agreed to meet the protesters on Wednesday. However, the professors do not have much hopes from the meeting.
“From January 8 to 24, owing to false promises and requests from the management for the welfare of the students, we held some lectures and completed around one-third of the syllabus. However, after the management failed us again, we decided to continue our non-cooperation. While earlier, we were ready to stop our protests even if the management paid us the salaries by instalments, now we would not let them fool us again and wouldn’t stop until we are paid the whole amount that is pending,” said Shinde on behalf of all professors.
