PUNE: The State Government has started allocating funds for the transit treatment centre for animals which is planned to in Bavdhan.
The centre was planned in 2018, but the project was in limbo due to due to lack of funds. The allocation of funds will help the Forest Department start the project.
The government has planned the centre in Pune, citing a rise in number of injured animals and more cases of man-animal conflict. The centre will be spread over 12 acres and would require around Rs 47 crore.
Currently, the wild animal rescue and rehabilitation centre at Katraj operates under the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) but does not have the capacity to accommodate enough animals.
The Bavdhan centre will have separate sections for canines, simians, herbivores, large felines, small felines, avians and reptiles. As per the State Government Resolution, about Rs 3.26 crore is allocated for deer section, Rs 1.83 crore for administration, Rs 1.08 crore for mammals, Rs 3.22 crore for herbivores section and Rs 1.94 crore for the veterinary facility.
