Standing Committee fails to stop cement concrete rd work

Pune: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) corporators are in no mood to save tax payers’ money, going by the Standing Committee’s rejection of a proposal to stop cement concrete road work for three years.

The committee instructed the Water Supply Department to give a list of roads instead of putting a blanket ban on cement concrete (CC) work.

During the press conference of Municipal Commissioner Kunal Kumar and Standing Committee Chairman Murli Mohol, it was announced that CC work would be stopped as the PMC is going to start 24x7 water supply project work. According to them, Water Supply Department has proposed to the Standing Committee to stop CC work for roads less than 12 metres.

The Water Supply Department then tabled a proposal before the Standing Committee. The proposal stated that due to the 24x7 water project, the PMC will be digging up 1,500 km roads for water pipe lines over 5 years. So, there should be no CC road work in the city. Only emergency CC road work should be carried out keeping roadside space for laying pipelines.

The Standing Committee decided to reconsider the proposal at Tuesday’s committee meeting.

Recently, the Standing Committee budget of Rs 5,870 crore out of which Rs 100 crore was allotted for cement concrete road works.
