SPPU starts eight-week Korean language course

SPPU starts eight-week Korean language course

PUNE: The International Centre of Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) has started a short-term course on Korean language from this academic year 2019-20.

SPPU and South Korea-based International Mind Education Institute (IMEI) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in June this year and the course began from September. Around 45 students have enrolled for the first batch of this course.

IMEI Director Minu Su, SPPU Vice-Chancellor Nitin Karmalkar, Pro-Vice-Chancellor NS Umarani and Director of International Centre Vijay Khare were present during the inauguration.

Speaking to Sakal Times, Khare said, “The institute approached us about this initiative. The move was taken by the institute after they found several Korean companies around Pune which need employees with basic knowledge of the language. Hence, as part of the MoU, we have started this course here.”

“They will be providing us with teachers and the university is supporting them with infrastructure,” added Khare.

The eight-week course will be a beginner’s course. “The course will help students learn the basics of the language as well as understand their culture,” he said.

The second batch of the course will start in January.
