PUNE: Municipal Commissioner Kunal Kumar has formed a special cell for implementing the parking policy. Before handing over charge to Additional Municipal Commissioner Sheetal Ugle-Teli, Kumar issued an transfer order of several officials. Along with the transfer order, Kumar formed a cell of seven member under the Additional City Engineer of PMC’s Traffic Planning Department, Srinivas Bonala.
Kumar appointed seven engineers to implement the parking policy. The cell consists of Superintendent Engineer Madan Adhari, Deputy Engineer Milind Bapat, Deputy Engineer Rohidas Devade, Section Engineer Sadanande Litke, Junior Engineer Sandeep Patil, Junior Engineer Pankaj Ambe and Junior Engineer Yogesh Nagane. All these engineers work in different departments and the commissioner has given them the additional charge of the parking policy’s implementation. Bonala said, “Our cell will prepare a plan of the parking policy.”
Last month, the PMC General Body had passed a parking policy with alterations in original policy documents. It formed a committee of all party leaders under the chairpersonship of Mayor Mukta Tilak to study different aspects of the policy. The committee will study implementation of the policy on an experimental basis on five roads in the city. It also decided to cancel night parking charges and develop parking lots.
The committee will discuss major issues and review parking lots’ development in the last 20 years to table a detailed report of PMC parking lots where they can construct multi-storeyed parking, to develop parking lots on Build Operate and Transfer (BoT) basis. These lots will be built on five major roads where the civic body can implement pay-and-park policy on an experimental basis.
