SPCA Portal Helps 268 Needy Animals In Just 3 Months

PUNE: The portal of the Pune District Society for Prevention of Cruetly against Animals (SPCA) has helped 268 animals within three months of its launch. www.districtspca.com helps citizens to directly report animal cruelty online.

“This system helped in bringing transparency and citizens are coming forward to notify acts of cruelty against animals. It provided a much needed platform for citizens to report the offences. “Till now, we were able to help 268 animals. Around 109 complaints have been registered,” said Neha Panchamiya, Committee Member-Pune District Society for Prevention of Cruetly against Animals (SPCA) and Founder and President of RESQ.

Talking about the cases, she said, ““There have been different tpes of offences registered in last three months -- not at all were serious offence. In some cases, we have tried to counsel while some required serious action. Since the team consists of government officials, it helped in solving the cases in less time and more efficiently.”

Dr Shital Mukane, Member Secretary, Pune District Society for Prevention of Cruetly against Animals (SPCA) explained how earlier citizens were not able to report cases as they did not know where to complain. “With this platform, they can easily report the case which is further verified by our team members who immediately intervene and coordinate with the police and other officials if required,” he said.

Panchamiya said, ““With this online system, the work has become systematic and accountability has also increased. It is easier for people to file complaint and also for us to solve it.”
