Smart mechanised street sweeping project launched in Aundh, Baner and Balewadi area

Pune: The Pune Smart City Development Corporation Limited (PSCDCL) has launched the Smart Mechanised Street Sweeping project, which makes use of advanced technology, on a pilot basis. The objective of this activity is to demonstrate ideal ways of cleaning streets using right equipment and to eventually increase the use pattern.

The pilot project was launched by Aundh-Baner Prabhag Samiti President Amol Balwadkar at Baner road on Saturday. The corporators from the area, Vijay Shewale, Jyoti Kalamkar, Swapnali Saikar, Sunita Wadekar were present along with Dr Rajendra Jagtap, CEO of PSCDCL, Dnyaneshwar Molak, Deputy Commissioner, Solid Waste Management, and Sandip Kadam, Assistant Municipal Commissioner.

PSCDCL will carry out the mechanised street sweeping with the help of Stuttgart-based German manufacturer machines - chainsaws and other handheld power equipments including trimmers and blowers. It will carry out daily sweeping of streets, covering the divider and footpath side cleaning of area underneath parked vehicles, walls adjacent to footpath, washing poles, bus stops to remove unauthorised posters/stickers, trimming of tree branches encroaching sidewalk, and pruning of grass grown at several locations.

Rajendra Jagtap, Chief Executive Officer of PSCDCL, said, “To arrive at a benchmark standard of cleaning, we are going to collaborate with various agencies to provide best carriageway cleaning with advanced handheld tools.”

Amol Balwadkar said, “The use of mechanisation is important and helpful for the cleanliness of the city, which is a step in providing a futuristic approach towards clean Pune. Aundh-Baner-Balewadi area will become totally clean with the elevation and scaling up of this project.”
