Six chain snatchings in 2 hours!

PUNE: At a time when the Pune city police have claimed there is a sharp decline in the number of chain-snatchings, a string of six chain-snatching incidents within two hours on Monday morning, has dampened the spirit of citizens. The police believe the bike-borne unidentified miscreants were from one gang in all these incidents, which happened in quick succession.

The first incident took place around 7 am at Jagtap Chowk in Wanawadi. The pillion rider snatched a woman’s chain while she was walking. After that two incidents took place near Phadke Hall and Lokhande Taleem under Vishrambaug police station’s jurisdiction. Another incident took place in Somwar Peth under Samarth police station. Around 8.30 am, a 20-gram chain of a woman was snatched near Manas Apartment in Bibvewadi. The sixth chain snatching was reported near RCM College in Kasba Peth around 9 am.

The police suspect that the robbers are from the same gang. The bike rider was wearing a helmet, while pillion rider was wearing a cap and had covered his face with a mask.

DCP (Crime Branch) Shirish Sardeshpande said that after getting information, Crime Branch and local police station officials rushed to the spot. “There was nakabandi in different parts of the city but nobody could be arrested till late Monday night. The police are trying to trace the robbers with the help of CCTV footage. Four teams have been formed to nab them,” he said.
