PUNE: A lane of the Mumbai-Pune Expressway near Adoshi tunnel has sunk by many inches following incessant rains over the last few days.
The leftmost lane, also known as the shoulder lane, has also separated from the main road giving an impression of a crack when in reality, the gap between the two lanes has widened to an alarming extent.
This happened at a 15 metre stretch (approx) on the Expressway on Monday afternoon after Lonavla and Khandala region received heavy rainfall. Recently, two accidents happened near the Adoshi tunnel on the E-way.
The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) has spent crores of rupees at Borghat for the installation of steel mesh nets.
However, small boulders and rocks are still falling on the road which has become dangerous for travellers. Apart from this, some cracks were also found on the Expressway.
The IRB, which is responsible for maintenance of the Expressway, has repaired it but it is not sufficient.
According to an witness, “There is a long crack (gap) on the Expressway towards Mumbai. This gap can be dangerous for travellers. However, the IRB had repaired the road. The officials have cordoned off the area.”
IRB officials who present at the spot said that the repair work is underway but will take some time for the repairs to get over.
