Shivshahi Bus rams into truck at Kamshet Tunnel, 20 injured

Pune: The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) air-conditioned bus Shivshahi rammed into a truck in Kamshet tunnel near Lonavla. The incident took place early morning on Monday. Due to the mishap, 20 passengers got injured.

According to an official of MSRTC, “The bus (MH47Y 0537) was plying between Thane and Kolhapur and 43 passengers were on board. The bus comes under the Thane division. The bus left on the time and was coming towards Pune. Most of the passengers who boarded the bus were coming to Pune to join office on Monday.”

Dnyaneshwar Ranaware, MSRTC Divisional Traffic Officer for Pune division, said, “The bus was carrying 43 passengers and was behind the truck, which was in the middle lane. The left side of the bus rammed into the right side of the truck. Around 20 passengers got injured. Out of this, 16 were admitted at a hospital near Lonavla and four were admitted at Lokmanay Hospital, Nigadi. All were discharged after treatment.”

After the accident, another bus was called from the Pune side and then carried the remaining passengers.

The officials said that this is a serious matter and it has come under the investigation. The team has already been formed to investigate the matter and it will soon submit the report within a week.

The expressway to remain shut for a while

The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) will start clearance of boulders near the tunnel area. The work will start on Tuesday morning and continue till March 14. The work is being done under the supervision of MSRDC Engineering Department. The boulders clearance work will carried out at Bhatan tunnel, Odishi tunnel, Khandala tunnel and Amrutanjan tunnel from morning 10 am to 3.15 pm. During this period, the movement of the vehicles will be closed for every 15 minutes from both sides, according to information provided by the MSRDC official.
