PUNE: The operations at Shirdi airport will resume partially from December 11 after being closed since November 14 due to low visibility.
The airport will now receive a new system which will help the aircraft to land in low visibility also.
Commercial flights started from Shirdi airport from October 2018 and till its closure, 14 daily services to and from several destinations were operated.
Visual Flight Rules (VFR) are regulations under which a pilot operates an aircraft in weather conditions generally clear enough to allow the pilot to see where the aircraft is going. The pilot must be able to operate the aircraft with visual reference to the ground by visually avoiding obstructions.
Shirdi airport Director Deepak Shastri told Sakal Times that the airport will start flight movement (partially) from December 11.
“The required system has been set up at the airport which helps the aircraft to land. The operation will start from Wednesday for only five hours. The timing of the operation will be from 12.30 pm to 5.30 pm. We are a VFR airport, which means, that the airport requires minimum visibility of 5 km to operate the aircraft. Since November 14, the visibility at the airport is only 3 km. After the new system, it will help to see 2 km more,” said Shastri .
According to the official, SpiceJet will start operations for Chennai (2), Bengaluru (2), Hyderabad and Delhi. Earlier, the airline had cancelled services from Shirdi airport and started operations from Aurangabad airport.
