PUNE: The 17th edition of Shaniwarwada Dance and Music Festival will take place 6.30 pm onwards at Shaniwarwada on February 25.
Every year, the two-day festival consists of dance and music. However, this edition will have a one-day festival of dance.
Addressing a press meet, Sabina Sanghvi, Chairperson of the festival, said, “Being only a cultural dance and music festival, this year, we are focusing only on cultural dance to motivate dancers and dance schools in the city."
“Of late, music festivals have become a trend, while dance is over-shadowed. There are no government fundings for the festival and we have our own sponsors.”
The passes for the festival will be available from February 16 to 24 at Balgandharva Rangmandir, Yashwantrao Chavan Natyagruh, Tilak Smarak Mandir, DVD Express, Aundh and The O-Hotel, Koregaon Park. The passes will be available at the venue from 11 am on the day of the event and will cost Rs 250.
Online booking through Book My Show is available.
The special attraction of the festival will be Gotipua Dance of Odissa, which will be performed in the city for the first time. A dance performance by well-known Bharatnatyam dancer Pavitra Bhat will also be part of the festival.
Actor Jackie Shroff has been a part of the festival for the past 10 years.
Shroff said, “I have observed that the trend has been changing in the past 10 years. Children and youths are opting for dance as their career.
