From Sep 23-Oct 2, 158 PMPML Buses Broke Down Every Day

Pune: The Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) has added 571 new buses including electric, CNG and midibuses in the last two-and-half years. However, it still fails to reduce the number of breakdowns. 

As per the PMPML, from September 23 to October 2 in 11 days, average 158 buses broke down every day. There are around 2,000 buses in the PMPML fleet. Out of these 1,400-1,450 ply on the roads every day. 
In the last two-and-half years, PMPML has added  571 buses including 200 midi-buses, 33 Tejaswini, 250 CNG and 88 electric buses. As per the Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited rule, if new buses are added to the fleet the old buses are removed from the road and are to be scrapped. Around 150 buses which had crossed 12 lakh km-mileage and were more than 10 years old were scrapped in the nine months between January and September.

During the monsoon, 70 buses broke down every day in the middle of the road. The number of buses belongs to contractors are not reducing. Three contractors are running 400 buses under Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited and every day 100 buses break down and average 45 to 50 PMPML-owned buses break down. By the end of the year, 200 to 250 buses will be scrapped.
