Sena Medal awarded to officers

Pune: Southern Command Investiture Ceremony was conducted in Pune on Saturday. Lieutenant General DR Soni, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Southern Command, felicitated two Officers and four Other Ranks (Jawans) with Sena Medal (Gallantry). These awards were given to the awardees for various acts of gallantry on January 26, 2018.

The Army Commander also bestowed Unit Citations to 14 units of Southern Command for their meritorious and outstanding performances. The ceremony was graced by a host of civil and military dignitaries and other distinguished guests.

Amongst the awardees were Major Pradeep Kumar Nigam and Naik Revat Singh who neutralised hardcore terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir inspite of being grievousl

† Lt Col Amit Chamoli,
Kumaon Regiment
(Rashtriya Rifles)
For displaying raw courage, leadership, presence of mind and tactical acumen in an operation that resulted in the elimination of one hardcore terrorist while operating as a company commander in Jammu & Kashmir.

† Major Pradeep Kumar Nigam,
Mahar Regiment (Rashtriya Rifles)
For his exemplary leadership and gallant action in eliminating a dreaded terrorist belonging to Hizbul Majhaiddin in Jammu & Kashmir.

† Lance Havildar Raisham Singh
Jammu and Kashmir Rifles (RR)
For his outstanding bravery, exemplary presence of mind and resolute grit, while operating as the team commander of a mobile vehicle check cum surveillance post in J&K, he was instrumental in eliminating one hardcore Pakistan trained terrorist.
† Naik Dileep Kumar Singh
Mechanised Infantry   
For his presence of mind, conspicuous act of bravery and indomitable courage, while operating as the second-in-command of the company assault team, he was instrumental in elimination of a dreaded Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist called Abu Anas.

Mahar Regiment
He displayed raw courage beyond the call of duty of highest standard while operating as part of an inner cordon in a cordon and search operation in Kulgam district, J&K. He was instrumental in eliminating terrorist of Hizbul Mujahideen called Wakeel Ahmed Thokar.

† Rifleman Abhinash Rai
Jammu and Kashmir Rifles
Despite only three years of service, displayed a commendable grasp of situation and bravery in effectively ensuring elimination of two hardcore terrorists thereby preventing a high profile terrorist attack on Independence Day in Baramulla district, Jammu & Kashmir.
