Security guards found sleeping during night shifts in Wakad area

PIMPRI: The raids, conducted by the Wakad police during the early hours of Wednesday, have revealed that a majority of security guards in 350 cooperative housing societies were fast asleep.

The raids were conducted by 35 squads, each comprising two police personnel. Photos and video clips of the sleeping security guards were taken by the squads. The police said nearly 70 per cent of the security guards were found to be sleeping during their work hours.

There are over 350 cooperative housing societies in the jurisdiction of the Wakad police station. A majority of residents are IT professionals.

Several house break-ins are reported during Diwali and summer vacations as many people go out of town. There are incidents of robberies even in housing societies that have security guards. The raids were conducted to alert the housing societies and security agencies about the security lapses.

The raids were conducted under the supervision of Senior Police Inspector Satish Mane and Police Sub-Inspector Harish Mane from 2.30 am to 4 am on Wednesday.

The police said that letters with the findings of the raids will be sent to the security agencies and office-bearers of concerned cooperative housing societies for necessary action.
