“I would like to encourage the present generation to scrutinise and analyse every forwarded message on their social media platforms, whether the news shared is authentic or fake. We shouldn’t believe in rumours and they should not be spread,” he said.

PUNE: The present era needs solution-based journalism, rather than just questioning the government, Chairman of AP Globale and Managing Director of Sakal Media Group, Abhijit Pawar said in Pune on Saturday while speaking at an interaction session with rotarians of Pune Central Rotary Club at Poona Club.

The session was held on the topic ‘The Responsibility of social media towards general public with a responsible coverage’.

Citing the example of Sakal group's daily Agrowon, which is agriculture-based paper, Abhijit Pawar said, "We worked on the agriculture problems, to bring solutions and make better policies for this sector. Definitely, media houses should raise questions but try to provide solutions to the existing problems as well. Only then, we can collaboratively bring about change in the society."

He also added that with maintaining a continuous dialogue with bureaucrats, media and government can bring about good changes in the society.

Pawar also said that citizens should check facts before believing in any forwarded message on social media.

“I would like to encourage the present generation to scrutinise and analyse every forwarded message on their social media platforms, whether the news shared is authentic or fake. We shouldn’t believe in rumours and they should not be spread,” he said.

“It is important that we as citizens should have a neutral approach towards the news shared on social media or heard on any media platform,” he added. President of Pune Central Rotary Club Jitendra Mundt, Joint Secretary Pradeep Supanekar along with other rotarians were present at the event.

Director of Ernst and Young Arvind Sethi was the moderator for the event. The president shared the monthly report of the club during the event.
