Satara Road, Katraj areas sans water and electricity 

PUNE: The heavy downpour in Pune has not only damaged gas pipelines in residential areas but also led to the disruption of power supply to 1.25 lakh consumers as well as drinking water supply in some parts of the city. Water and power supply will take some days to restore in Satara Road, Navi Peth and Prabhat Road areas, said officials. 

Due to heavy rainfall, power supply of southern half of the city was hit. Water supply to half of the city was also affected. The Pune Municipal Corporation’s (PMC) water treatment plant was affected as muddy water damaged water pumping station machinery. Electricity was also affected in these areas. There was a report of more than one lakh people being affected due to power failure. 

Low pressure  
Municipal Commissioner Saurabh Rao said, “Padmavati water pumping station was damaged due to flash floods. Water pumps were damaged due to muddy water. We are trying hard to restore the water supply.   There was no water in Prabhat Road, Navi Peth, Lokmanya Colony, Shastri Road, Alka Talkies, Poona Hospital, Phatak Baug, Rajendra Nagar and Deccan area on Thursday.”

According to PMC water supply department officials, Katraj, Sahakar Nagar, Bibvewadi, Market Yard, Dhankawadi, Balaji Nagar will receive low-pressure water supply for five days.  

More than a lakh people in dark 
Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited  (MSEDCL) officials are working hard to restore power in flood-affected areas. According to MSEDCL officials, they restored power supply in maximum areas. 

As mentioned in MSEDCL press note, the flash flood tripped power supply of Padmavati division. They stopped power supply of 11 sub-division out of 14 in Padmavati area. Three feeder pillars went underwater, while seven poles fell in Dhayari, Sahakar Nagar and Sinhagad Road area. 

The areas in the city hit by power loss are: Kondhwa Khurd, Kondhwa Budruk, Lullanagar, NIBM, Ghorpadi, Sinhagad Road, Dhayari, Sahakar Nagar, Katraj, Balewadi, Mhalunge, Susgaon, Baner and Bopodi Gaothan. In rural parts, there was no power in Khed, Nasrapur, Shivapur and Bhilarewadi.
