Sassoon Hosp gets electronic fetal monitoring unit

Pune: Sassoon General Hospital (SGH) has got an Electronic Fetal Monitoring Unit, which will help women, who have complications during delivering a child. Electronic fetal monitoring is a procedure in which instruments are used to continuously record the heartbeat of the foetus and the contractions of the woman’s uterus during labour. 

This machine helps in diagnosing if the child in the uterus is able to breathe or not and hence help the doctors in quick action. The machine was donated by the Congnizant Foundation. Around 15 such machines have been donated, which totally amounted to Rs 29 lakh. The donation was made to the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology of the hospital. Dr Ajay Chandanwale, Dean of SGH, said that this is the first instrument that ensures that the baby comes to the world safely.
