Sahyadri Hosp to launch advanced cancer care centre

Pune: Understanding the need for a specialised cancer care centre in the city, Sahyadri Super Speciality Hospital in Hadapsar has come up with one of its kind Oncology Centre and first radiation Oncology Centre. With this, all the cancer-related treatment facilities will now be available to the patients under a single roof.

This was announced at a press conference by Dr Charudutt Apte, an eminent neurosurgeon and Chairman of Sahyadri Group of Hospitals, Dr Shona Nag, a renowned oncologist and Director of the Oncology Department in the hospital, Dr Sanjay MH, Radiation Oncologist and Dr Sunil Rao, Group Chief Operating Officer at Sahyadri Hospital.

Addressing the media, Dr Charudutt Apte said that this centre was planned to take into consideration the growing needs and demands for a specialised cancer centre in Pune.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Nag said that three main pillars of oncology namely, surgical oncology, medical oncology and radiation oncology would be available under one roof with the focus on providing holistic care covering physical, psychological rehabilitation and supportive services like patient support groups and home-based palliative care.

““In addition, the hospital has a multi-disciplinary tumour board, a unique platform providing access, not only to the doctors who wish to seek or discuss their patient’s case with our expert team but also to the patients seeking the second opinion. Under this initiative, one can avail opinion of the expert team of medical, surgical, radiation oncologists and other allied specialists in a single visit,”” said Dr Nag.

She further added that under this care centre, we are soon starting breast centre as a special unit to treat all types of breast-related problems including breast cancer, stoma clinic, speech therapy clinic to rehabilitate speech of patients with oral cancer and an integrated therapy unit combining naturopathy, homoeopathy, Ayurveda, acupressure and other supportive therapies.

Sharing his views, Dr Sanjay MH said that this cancer care centre has all the advanced radiation equipment to treat various kinds of tumours, state of art operation theatres, 12 bed day care facility and all the advanced imaging and diagnostic facilities for cancer treatments.

“This centre will prove to be beneficial for catering to these patients as well, as it will provide all treatment facilities from low to high end and has the latest technology in place. It has an active breath coordinator (ABC) useful for targeting all moving tumours during breathing, and also for all left-sided breast cancers in reducing heart dose. The centre also has a hexapod-6d couch which is a robotic couch guided by an infrared camera that enables sub-millimetre patient positioning accuracy in six degrees of freedom,” said Dr Sanjay MH.
