Rs 111.74 crore fine recovered from traffic violators in 2019

The action was taken against the violators either with the help of CCTV image grabs or after they were caught by the police. As per the data published by Pune traffic officials, they have recovered Rs 17.5 lakh from two-wheeler riders who did not wear helmets. 

PUNE: The city traffic police have recovered the fine amounting to Rs 111.74 crore from traffic rule violators from January to December 2019. Accordingly, 59,229 two-wheeler riders were penalised for various violations.

The action was taken against the violators either with the help of CCTV image grabs or after they were caught by the police. As per the data published by Pune traffic officials, they have recovered Rs 17.5 lakh from two-wheeler riders who did not wear helmets. 

This was the main reason for the fines. By the end of 2019, the police commissionerate collated data of the fine collected by 24 traffic police offices. As per police officials, there has been a decrease in accident-related cases by 50 per cent in 2019 due to various awareness drives by the traffic police.
