Rohit Tilak granted anticipatory bail

Pune: Senior Congress leader Rohit Tilak was granted anticipatory bail on Friday by the Pune sessions court in the alleged rape case of a woman on the pretext of marriage. The next hearing is scheduled for July 28.

Tilak's lawyer argued that the woman has levied false charges in order to blackmail Tilak. Tilak has been booked by the Pune city police for allegedly raping the woman lawyer. The FIR in this regard was registered against him late on Monday night at Vishrambaug police station. Tilak is the national coordinator of the Indian Youth Congress. He is grandson of late Jayantrao Tilak, who was a senior Congress leader and Member of Parliament, and a great-grandson of Bal Gangadhar Tilak. As per the FIR, the 40-year-old lawyer and the accused knew each other for a few years and met when she was fighting a case related to the educational institute in the Bombay High Court. The woman has alleged that Tilak repeatedly raped her on the pretext of marrying her. He also allegedly forced her to have unnatural sex. The police have booked him under various sections of the IPC.
