Pune: Around 77 government quarters occupied by Public Works Department (PWD) officials in Sangvi area were evacuated by the Revenue Department on Tuesday.
Earlier on May 26, 33 quarters in Bopodi area were vacated.
Some of the officers had continued to occupy them even after retiring 30 years ago while some had rented them to third parties, said Revenue
Department officials.

this action.
The PWD has 240 quarters in Pach Bangla area in Dapodi and 92 quarters in Bara Bangla area in Sangvi. Of the 92 quarters in Dapodi, 33 were occupied by retired officials.
Some of the officials were staying there for 30 years after retiring from services.
The Revenue Department had issued notices to them asking them to vacate the quarters. On May 26, as the Revenue Team went to evacuate the government quarters, the occupants resisted. On Tuesday, 77 quarters in Sangvi were evacuated.
After the Revenue Department’s notice, around 20 officers vacated their quarters on their own.
Revenue Department officials had sought help from the Sangvi Police for evicting the illegal occupants.
The officials said some of the officials, who had retired from the department 30 years ago, were using the government quarters for running their businesses.
