Relative stabs mother and daughter for not organising a grand birthday party

Pune: Considering the stressful situation bought on by the COVID-19 outbreak in the country, Nigdi based man decided to celebrate his daughter's birthday as a low key affair with friends and relative. But things didn't go as planned as one of the relatives got irritated at the low-key festivities and stabbed the woman and birthday girl.

Following the incident, the Nigdi police have booked a case of assault against Santosh Pradip Gaikwad (40), a resident of Rajgruh Housing Society. The incident came to light after Raju Kerappa Gaikwad (41), a resident of Azad Chowk, Sangram Nagar, Ambedkar Colony in Nigdi lodged an First Information Report (FIR) with the police.

Sub-inspector of police Varsharani Ghate of Nigidi police station who is investigating the case told Sakal Times, "Both complainant and suspects are relatives. Usually, the complainant organises a grand celebration on his daughter's birthday. But this year, considering the COVID-19 situation, the birthday was celebrated with a low-key affair. The alleged suspect Santosh was angry about the celebrations and complained repeatedly. He also argued for not cooking Biryani."

"Following this, Santosh went to Raju's house to ask why the girl's birthday was not celebrated every year. He also had a heated argument over this. Santosh also called a few more people to celebrate the birthday. However, when the complainant and his family denied, Santosh was angered further and pulled out a sharp-edged weapon and charged on Raju's wife. He stabbed the daughter too when she came to her mother's rescue. Both sustained multiple injuries on hands, fingers and toes," she added.

The sub-inspector clarified that the mother and daughter were taken to the hospital and are out of danger. Santosh has been arrested and investigations have shown a criminal record. The police are in the process of further investigation of the case.
