Raisoni college's 'COVID Strikers' bag the second runner-up position in 'Crack the COVID-19' competition

Pune: 'COVID Strikers', a team of Pune based G H Raisoni Institute of Engineering and Technology's (GHRIET), secured the second runner-up position in the national level online Hack-a-thon 'Crack the COVID-19 Crisis' organised by IBM and Nasscom Future Skills during lockdown period.

The team made a project called ‘Power to voice" under the Crisis Communication head, which aims at solving issues related to migrant workers. Students Akshay Toshniwal, Soham Munot, Himanshu Deshmukh, Saurabh Chordiya under the guidance of Professor Rachana Sabale and Prof Pankaj Khambre created the app enabling smoother communication between government, administration, organisations and migrant workers.

Sharing more about the project, Prof Rachana Sabale said, "During the lockdown, due to the COVID-19 outbreak, our country was encountering huge issues related to migrant workers. The competition was aimed at solving this issue. Our students made an app which aimed for better coordination between the administration office and railway station to help the migration of workers from one state to another. The application also helps in risk analysis by asking symptoms of COVID-19 and accordingly predicts risk based on the age group of the user. The app does not require any internet, or smartphone, and can run on simple mobile phones. Many non-governmental organisations also extended a helping hand to the migrant workers, and the app can also bridge the gap between the NGOs as well as these workers."

A total of 26,478 teams participated nationwide in the Hackathon, including over 1 lakh IT professionals, students, and start-ups. After 3 rounds of rigorous filtration, the GHRIET team secured the second Runner Up position. These students will now soon be competing in the International IBM Hack-a-thon event “Call for Code Global Challenge”.
