Rains bring traffic chaos, waterlogging

PUNE: Mild showers in the city on Monday led to slow-moving traffic in different areas. Officials of the city traffic police said that the roads had turn slippery after the shower which caused slow moving traffic.

“There was traffic jam at Juna Bazaar Chowk, Maal Dhakka Chowk and slow moving traffic in Hadapsar area. Signals were shut down for some time and traffic regulation was done manually. There were incidents of waterlogging for some time but not in peak hours. We have asked police officials to regulate the traffic manually which helped us a lot in clearing congestions,” said a traffic police official.

Traffic signals on Jangli Maharaj (JM) Road, FC Road and Ganesh Khind Road were shut down.

Officials of the PMC Electrical Department said of the 250 signals in the city, on an average 10-12 signals malfunction on a daily basis. In monsoon, the number increases.

Additional City Engineer of Electrical Department Shirniwas Kandul, said, “We have not reported any signal failure on Monday. We have two teams to repair signals. There are three reasons for signal malfunction – electricity failure, underground cable damage and third is manual interference.”

Dense slow-moving traffic was noted at Laxmi Road, Wakdewadi, CoEP flyover, Lal Mahal, Nagar Road and other areas while waterlogging was reported at 30 places in the city.
