Railway Passengers Are Confused About New Short Route To Manmad

Pune: The chord line (a bypass route) under construction directly connecting Pune and Manmad junctions, bypassing Daund Junction, is about to be completed.

It is expected that trains taking this route will save 30 to 35 minutes.

However, it is not clear which trains will be diverted via the chord line. Railway officials claimed that express trains, which have a technical halt (short-duration halt), would be diverted on the chord line.

They will not have a halt at Daund Junction after the completion of the work.

On September 17, the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) inspected the new line.

The construction of the new railway line started in 2017. A safety inspection has been done. Goods trains have already started running on the chord line.

Initially, the line will be used for goods trains. Once the platform work is completed, other express and superfast trains will be diverted on the chord line.

However, there is confusion among passengers whether all trains going through Manmad will use the bypass chord line.

Goods trains have already started running on the chord line for the past three days.

“After completion of the work, it will be decided which trains will have a long halt at Daund Junction and which will have only a technical halt. Trains having a technical halt will take the chord line while other trains will have a long stoppage at Daund junction till the platform work is completed,” said a senior officer of Central Railway on condition of anonymity.

Pune-Jammu Tavi Express, Pune-Patna Superfast Express, Pune-Howrah Azad Hind Express, Pune-Nagpur Garib Rath, Pune-Darbhanga Gyan Ganga Express, Pune-Manduadih Express and other trains have a stoppage at Daund Junction for at least 30 minutes. From Pune, trains first travel to Daund and then to Manmad. Trains have to change direction at Daund while going toward Manmad. The locomotive has to be attached to the train on the other side. This process takes over 40 minutes.

The new line will be fully operational after four days. Only three trains are going via chord line. After completion of platform work, all trains will go, said Milind Deouskar, DRM Pune.

The trains including 12629/30 Yeshvantpur-Nizamuddin Sampark Kranti, 22685/86 Yeshvantpur-Chandigarh and 15030/29 Pune-Gorakhpur-Pune are using the chord line. The remaining 13 pairs of trains will take the new route after the platform work is completed.

Daund is a technical halt for all long-distance trains. This halt is mainly for changing the locomotive. If this can be avoided, then long-distance trains will be able to save two hours, which will be very beneficial, said Railway Pravasi Group President Harsha Shah.
