Rail traffic remains affected

PUNE: The incessant rainfall in Pune, Mumbai and in the ghat areas has affected the train traffic not only between Pune and Mumbai but also between the Pune-Kolhapur section. Several express and passenger trains have been cancelled due to waterlogging on the railway tracks.

As the MSRTC has stopped plying buses from Pune to Kolhapur, passengers were dependent on the railways. But the situation has worsened as the railway tracks are under the water and as precautionary measures, the railways has cancelled several trains.

“The waterlogging was reported on the railway tracks in Kolhapur. The railways has decided not to ply any train between these two cities. Mahalaxmi Express, Bangalore-Kolhapur Express, Kolhapur-Bidar, Pune-Kolhapur Express have been cancelled. The trains will start operating when the situation is normalised,” said Pune railway division spokesperson Manoj Jhawar.

“However, the railways has already cancelled trains between Pune and Mumbai. On Wednesday, train number 11021 Dadar-Tirunelveli Express short originated from Pune and train number 17412 Kolhapur-Mumbai Mahalaxmi Express short originated from Miraj. Passengers who have already booked their tickets online got the refund,” said Jhawar.
