QR code patrolling in PCMC areas

QR code patrolling in PCMC areas

PIMPRI/PUNE: After Pune city police, the Pimpri-Chinchwad police will now put up printed quick response (QR) codes at various locations for better patrolling. There are over 5,000 QR codes displayed across Pune, which are scanned by beat marshalls of police stations, traffic cops and Damini squad.

This activity will also increase visibility of police on roads and help prevent crimes. The movement of cops are monitored from Pune police control room with the help of a centralised system (Third I app).

A police official told Sakal Times, “There are 22 locations in our jurisdiction where QR codes are pasted and I have to scan them. Therefore, in 24 hours, the codes are scanned at least 55 times by different police personnel.”

Another constable pointed out, “It serves both purposes – the department wants us to visit those places, which we are doing and then there is evidence that we actually visited the locations as the time of scan is also captured by the app when we scan the QR code.”

Police officials in Pune said that since this system was put in place in mid-February, they are getting good results.

Now Pimpri-Chinchwad police has also decided to replicate this model in their jurisdiction. “We will start this system in about a month. The locations, where QR codes will be put up, will be decided by the in-charge of the local police station,” said Sandeep Bishnoi, Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Commisioner.
