Purush Hakka Saunrakshan Samiti to hold conference

Pune: Purush Hakka Saunrakshan Samiti, Pune, will be organising its 20th conference on November 25 and 26 in the city. The organisation works with the objective of promoting the welfare of men and saving the family system in our society.
The conference will be held at Udyan Mangal Karyalay, Khajina Vihir Chowk, Tilak Road, near SP College.

Speaking about the issues to be addressed, Adv Santosh Shinde, District President of the organisation, said, “There have been cases where laws and acts made to save and protect women from atrocities have been used against men. Therefore, it’s necessary to make laws to protect men. This is necessary to preserve the institutions of marriage and family in our society.”

He also added that while the organisation has been fighting for the establishment of a men protection cell, parallel to the women protection cell in every police station since its inception, the demand hasn’t yet been met.

“Even men can lodge their complaints under the women protection cells, however, this doesn’t happen due to lack of awareness. Also, the way men are seen by society, they feel humiliated to file complaints against women, be it their wife or anybody else, and thus, many times, choose not to be vocal about injustice inflicted on them. All this can change only with awareness and education that will change the mentality of men as well as women,” Shinde said.

Sangeeta Nanaware, Pune District Vice-President of the organisation, said, “Indian Penal Code, Article 498 (A) protects women from domestic violence, but women have misused it to their advantage. What’s sad is that no action is taken against the women who are found guilty of this kind of deceit. Changes need to be brought in the laws to prevent this.”
