Punekars queue at LPG suppliers’ office despite COVID-19 lockdown

PUNE: As cases of people not receiving the refilled LPG cylinders surfaced, people from the city to rush out of their homes throwing administration requests of not to step out of the houses. Huge lines were seen outside the LPG suppliers offices in the city despite the administration’s announcement that there would be the smooth transfer of the essentials goods during the 21 days lockdown.
With a complete lockdown and minimal options of ordering food, many homemakers across the city are in a dilemma.
Ujwala Ursal, a resident of Katraj, said, “Though our gas cylinder was booked in advance the agency people are not ready to deliver it at home. Likewise, we are not allowed to go out. How I am going to survive in the situation.”
Shravan Jaju, Rajaram Gas Agency, said, “Due to shortage of staff as most of them fearing the outbreak has gone back to their home town, and there might be a gas delivery problem in some parts, but we have been delivering services to doorsteps as much as possible.”
Gas agency dealers said that they have called back their delivery boys who are residing in the city limits.
The Regional Officer, Bharat Petroleum, Sourabh Mukherjee, appealed consumers to not come to the agency office. “We have already directed the agencies to deliver gas cylinder even during the lockdown as no customer should face any trouble,” said Mukherjee.
He confirmed that each customer was essential to them, and they will get delivery at their doorsteps.
