The deceased has been identified as Shubham Janardhan Nakhate (22), a resident of Kalewadi. Shubham’s father Janardan Atmaram Nakhate (52) has filed a complaint in this regard at Wakad police station. Shubham Nakhate was a suspect in a molestation case of a school girl. The case was registered in July 2019 at Wakad police station.
Assistant Inspector of Police Harish Mane from Wakad police station said, “The suspects Dnyaneshwar Patil and Ajay Wakode have a Vadapav handcart in Kalewadi area. A few days ago, deceased Shubham had eaten Vadapav at Patil’s stall but refused to pay for the food. This led to a quarrel between them. They both had threatened each other with dire consequences.
After the dispute, Shubham took a stand that the vadapav handcart should not be allowed to be placed on road at Kalewadi. Ajay Wakode got annoyed with Shubham over his statements. The quarrel between Shubham and Patil and Wakode led to an argument two days ago. The suspects then called Shubham near the Dhondiram marriage hall office in Kalewadi around 8.30pm on Wednesday night, saying that they would settle their dispute.
When Shubham reached the spot, the suspects had a squabble with him again. At around 9.30 pm, the suspects assaulted Shubham with a sickle on his face, hands and head. The suspects then fled from the spot. Shubham was critically injured in the attack and was lying into a pool of blood. Upon receiving the information, relatives of Shubham rushed him to a nearby hospital. However, doctors declared him dead upon arrival.
