A 37-year-old man from Chikhali, Pune was arrested by police after his wife lodged a complaint against him on charges of molesting his 12-year-old daughter

Pune: A 37-year-old man from Chikhali was arrested by police after his wife lodged a complaint against him on charges of molesting his 12-year-old daughter. The man has been booked under several sections of the Indian Penal Code and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

The arrested suspect works as a driver while the family belongs to the economically weaker section. The incident came to light when the woman, who works as a sweeper, saw her husband touching their daughter inappropriately while they had gone to their native village in Latur. Later, the woman gained trust of her daughter who then revealed that this was going on for a while. That’s when the woman decided to approach police and lodge a complaint against her husband.

Chikhali police have booked the man under sections 376 (rape), 376AB (punishment for rape on woman under twelve years of age), 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 354B (assaults or use of criminal force to woman with intent of disrobing), 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code and sections 3, 4, 8, 11, 12 (punishment for penetrative sexual assault) of the POCSO Act.

According to the complaint filed, the man was indulging in such acts since 2016. He was threatening the girl to kill her and her mother. Occasionally he also threatened to kill himself, if the girl refused to let him do the act. The complainant first noticed it on April 17 when they had been to their native place in Latur. She again saw her husband’s misconduct on August 17 after which she filed a complaint at Chikhali police station.  Police said they are awaiting the medical test reports after which they will decide to add more sections of the IPC and POCSO act against the suspect. Police sub-inspector Shyam Mhaske is investigating the case.
