Pune: Wadgaon-Maval farmhouse manager dies eight days after being shot by unidentified assailants

Pune: The injured manager of a farmhouse in Wadgaon-Maval area died on Wednesday (July 29) night while he was under treatment at the Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital after being shot by unidentified assailants on July 22 morning.

The reasons behind his murder are not known yet and police have failed to make any arrests in this case so far. Pune Rural police had earlier registered FIR under section 307 (attempt to murder) and sections of the Arms Act. Police have now added section 302 (murder) against the unknown suspects in this case.

The deceased manager had been identified as Milind Madhukar Manerikar (50), a resident of Talegaon Dabhade. He had sustained three bullet injuries on his abdomen and was admitted to the hospital immediately. Doctors had operated on him but his condition remained critical.

The assault on Manerikar took place on July 22 morning at around 9.30 am near Sankalp Farms in Vahangaon in Maval taluka. Manerikar was travelling in a car with his friend Chetan Vijay Nimkar from Talegaon and they were headed to the farmhouse. Manerikar was driving the car. While they came near the farmhouse, two men, wearing masks, on a bike approached them on the pretext of inquiring about an address. When Manerikar rolled down the window to talk to them, the pillion rider on the bike fired several shots at him. Three bullets hit him in the abdomen and one in the neck. The assailants escaped from the spot immediately and have been absconding since then. The number plate of the bike they used was missing. Manerikar was seriously injured in the attack and was rushed to the hospital. He succumbed to the injuries on Wednesday (July 29) night at around 7.45 pm.

Pune Rural police are suspecting two reasons behind the murder including past rivalry and financial dealings, however, no progress has been made so far on the investigation front.
