Pune: VIT, JSPM professors among 12 conferred with Outstanding Teacher Award by AICTE

Pune: City-based professors Dr Shripad Bhatlawande (Vishwakarma Institute of Technology) and Dr Shailaja Patil (JSPM Rajashri Shahu Maharaj College of Engineering) have been conferred with the first Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya Outstanding Teacher Award by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). A total 12 professors from the country have been selected for this award of which five are from Maharashtra including two from Pune city.

AICTE has started these awards for professors from Technical Education Institutes and colleges in memory of Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya. Out of the 261 proposals received from all over the country, 12 professors have been chosen for this award. Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank announced these names during an online program on the occasion of Engineers Day. 

The award winner professors include Dr Prashant Pawar (SVERI College of Engineering, Pandharpur), Dr Malathi R (Tamil Nadu), Dr Mohammad Yaar (New Delhi), Dr Shailja Patil (JSPM Rajarshi Shahu Maharaj College of Engineering, Pune), Dr Janet Jayaraj (Tamil Nadu), Dr Manesh Kokare (Sri Guru Gobind Singhji Institute of Engineering Technology, Nanded), Dr Tejal Gandhi (Gujarat), Dr Shripad Bhatlawande (Vishwakarma Institute of Technology (VIT) Pune), Dr Farooq Qazi (Veermata Jijabai Technological Institute, Maharashtra), Dr Manish Sharma (Chhattisgarh), Dr Jayavandan Patel (Gujarat) and Dr Nandkumar Mada (Tamil Nadu).

Dr Shailaja Patil said, “The award is based on evaluation for research, research papers, innovation, patents, entrepreneurship, collaboration with students and associate professors. The college has trusted me by recommending my name for this award. The credit for this award goes to the college colleagues, students and family. Innovation and startups are encouraged in our institute and we also have the recognition of ATAL ranking.”

Dr Shripad Bhatlawande said, “VIT offers facilities, funding and freedom to acquire knowledge and experiment with new information, thus doubling the confidence of the professors. The college has trusted me and given me many opportunities. I’m glad that in my 20 years of service I could explain to students how they should learn.”
