Pune: Vedanta society in Wakad sets up on-premises quarantine facility for 2,000 members

Pune: Vedanta society in Wakad has set up its on-premises quarantine centre with an oxygen cylinder facility for its 2000 members. The centre has been started in a 2bhk flat and clubhouse and the capacity will be augmented if the need arises.

Pimpri-Chinchwad city has crossed the mark of 16 thousand total COVID-19 cases. As of Saturday (July 25), the total deaths reported are 350 and active cases are about 3870. About 10158 patients have recovered from the disease.

The daily reported COVID-cases from Pimpri-Chinchwad has crossed the 1,000 mark. Given the shortage of hospital beds, especially ventilators, ICU and oxygenated beds in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad city, this initiative by the housing society will be beneficial to its members.

The society has about 344 flats and 2,000 members stay in the housing society. During the lockdown too, society members have followed all norms strictly. Masks, gloves and face shields were provided to the security guard and other workers in the society. Foot pedal sanitiser dispensers were also installed at the entrance gate, lifts, common areas and other locations necessary.

Groceries were delivered at the doorstep by an e-commerce service provider and vegetables, fruits were procured from local farmers, thereby reducing the risk of exposure of the coronavirus to any member of the society. The Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation employees also sanitise the premises periodically.

The quarantine centre facility was set up after the society's management committee chairman Dr Somnath Dhonde took the initiative. Some society members have come forward to supply food to any member who would be kept in quarantine or isolation in case he or she catches the infection.

The quarantine centre is also equipped with a cooking gas for making food arrangement, pulse oximeters, thermal screening guns and beds. About 10 patients can be admitted in this centre at any given point of time. The capacity of beds and oxygen cylinders will be increased in case more number of patients need to be treated, said a society member.
