Pune Unlock 1.0: Traffic on highways picks up pace

Day after the announcement, many parts of the city witnessed small amount of traffic. Many areas including the highways in the city witnessed a good flow of the vehicles travelling.

The Maharashtra government on Sunday issued the revised guidelines for the fifth phase of the lockdown by citing the fifth phase will be more of ‘Unlock 1’ where more relaxations were given on the activities which were halted from long.

Day after the announcement, many parts of the city witnessed small amount of traffic. Many areas including the highways in the city witnessed a good flow of the vehicles travelling. The goods traffic which is an important part of the economic cycle has also been started. The traffic of goods vehicles was increased on Mumbai-Bengaluru expressway. Also, Satara bypass witnessed small traffic.

Also, many parts of city witnessed some traffic amid the relaxations received from lockdown.  As the small businesses and private offices also opened, employees are now getting back to the work. 

After two months, Punekars have witnessed traffic on the road. Shirish Mhaske, who travels daily to the office using his bike said, “Due to lockdown my office was closed. But as it has started now, I cleaned my bike in the morning and now going to the office.”

Only the peth areas and containment zones where cases are on the rise is not witnessing any kind of traffic movement.

The Pimpri Chinchwad area which was once a very highly affected area due to coronavirus also has seen several relaxations in this phase of lockdown. The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has allowed people to make use of parks and playgrounds with maintaining sufficient physical distance. Any group activity is still not allowed. Industries especially having very low staff strength can operate with full staff.
