Pune: Two women from Uganda arrested for running a prostitution racket

Pune: Wakad police have arrested two women from Uganda on charges of running a prostitution racket through Whatsapp in the Pimpri-Chinchwad city and nearby areas. Primary investigation has revealed that the two women were illegally staying in the city for two years as their visas expired.

The suspects have been identified as Kalembe Joaniatah (25) and Nakato Shanitah (40), both residents of Masaka city in Uganda. They have been remanded in police custody for a day, by a Judicial Magistrate (First Class) court in Pune.

Assistant Police Inspector Sapana Devtale of Wakad Police Station has filed a complaint in this regard. Accordingly, Kalembe and Nakato have been booked under section 3, 4 (punishment for living on the earnings of prostitution), 5 (procuring, inducing or taking a person for the sake of prostitution) of Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act, 1956 and the section 14 (Penalty for staying in any area for a period exceeding the visa validity and involving in any act in violation of the conditions of the visa) of The Foreigners Act 1946.

Police Inspector Vivek Muglikar of Wakad police station received a tipoff about two foreign national women contacting prospective clients through a WhatsApp number and running a prostitution racket in a flat of a society. Accordingly, PI Muglikar and API Devtale formed a team and laid a trap to nab the suspects by sending a decoy customer. The two women were contacted through a message on their number. The suspects responded by sending a photo and location after their deal was finalized. When the decoy customer was received by the suspects in the flat, the police team nabbed the two women. Cash amount and three mobiles were seized from their possession.

Primary interrogation revealed that the two women were staying on rental basis in the flat. The rental agreement was registered in the name of their friend. Visa of one of the suspects has expired two years before, while the other suspect's visa was impounded earlier.

API Harish Mane, Police Sub-Inspector Pranil Chougule, police staff Deva Waghmare, Vikram Jagdale, Bapusaheb Dhumal, Babajan Inamdar, Javed Pathan, Deepak Bhosale, Vijay Gambhire, Vikram Kudal, Sachin Narute, Prashant Gilbile, Pramod Kadam, Shyam Baba, Nitin Gengje, Aabid Shaikh participated in the raid conducted on the flat.
