Pune: Suspect's coughing leads police personnel to don PPE kit for 3 consecutive days

Pune: The coronavirus pandemic has kept police on toes in the lockdown and now crime incidents which are gradually increasing day by day is another challenge for police personnel.

In one such challenging incident, police personnel in the city donned a PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) kit for three consecutive days after a suspect arrested by police in sexually-abuse case of his step-daughter started coughing when he was taken to the hospital.

A 14-year-old victim lodged a complaint to Wakad police station which falls under the jurisdiction of Pimpri-Chinchwad police commissionerate and explained that she was repeatedly sexually abused by her step-father. Based on which, the victim was rushed to the hospital and her step-father was arrested.

The suspect was produced before the court of a judicial magistrate. The court granted the police custody for the suspect. After a span of four days, the Wakad police again produced him before the court of JMFC and was remanded to judicial custody.

During the investigation, the suspect started complaining uneasiness and coughing which prompted police to isolate him and wear PPE kit and rushed him to Government hospital at Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial hospital to conduct medical COVID-19 test.

A team of policemen donned PPE kits for three consecutive days.  Due to this, the police were into a sweat as well as had risked their lives for this suspect as until the reports from the hospital came negative.
