Pune: Students demand clarity from universities regarding MCQ based examinations

Pune: Following the Supreme Court order, Savitribai Phule Pune University and other universities have clarified that final year examinations will be conducted on Multiple Choice Question (MCQ) basis, but the students are left confused regarding some subjects which they claim are impossible to attempt on MCQ basis.

Pritam Wakalkar, a third-year BSc student said, "I am of the opinion that exam should be conducted, but how can a subject like a computer science be answered on MCQ basis. It will take time for calculations and thinking about the correct choice. I don't understand how to prepare for it. Therefore, the examination time should be extended as it will be less than one-hour duration for fifty questions. Pune University should consider this."

Another student Akshay Jire said, "There are three types of account subjects in the third year. In these subjects, we solve the problems. Now I don't know how to prepare for questions on MCQ basis. There are no question sets available to study MCQ patterns. So how do we take the exam?"

Lahu Dongre, a student at a college affiliated to the University of Mumbai said, "Our college has said that there will be an online MCQ based exam and we should start preparing for it. But no one is telling us how to prepare for the exam. Some students prepare for JEE, NEET and hence they are ready for MCQ pattern. Therefore, it is not appropriate to compare us with them."

Dr Parag Kalkar, Dean of Faculty of Commerce and Management said, "Students should not be scared of the exam in MCQ pattern. Properly study the course taught to you. The number of questions will be correct, Pune University has already taken MBA and Engineering exams in a similar pattern and hence students should not worry about it."

Demands made by students on social media

- Declare the course
- How it will be evaluated in the credit system
- Take the assignment base exam like other states
- If exams were to be conducted online, then why six months were wasted
