Pune: The deadline for the application of the Right to Education (RTE) Act, where 25 per cent seats are reserved for the economically weaker section, has been extended till August 31. The Directorate of the Elementary Education has clarified that the aspiring students, who have secured admissions in this category, will have to confirm it sooner by August 31. Failing on doing so will revoke the opportunity of admission through this category.
At present, in this section, a total of 1.15 lakh seats are available for admission in 9,331 schools across Maharashtra this year. Out of which 2.91 lakh have applied and at present, a total of 1.1 lakh students have been granted admission through a lottery process. Out of these, 50,967 students have been provided temporary admission, and the admission of 38,778 students has been confirmed.
The admission process was conducted online earlier. Aspirants on the draw list will have to confirm their admission by August 31, if not, the students on the waiting list will then be given priority for admission. Parents of the students whose admission has been declared should go and approach the concerned school before August 31 this year with their respective original documents, photocopies to confirm the admission.
"If it is not possible for the parents to visit the respective schools to confirm the admission, the parents should confirm the admission by sending the documents to the school by e-mail or by contacting the Principal of the school by telephone," said Dattatraya Jagtap, Director, Directorate of Primary Education. He further added, "I have instructed the schools to complete the admission process on time by contacting the parents of the aspirant students who did not come for admission as per the list obtained from the RTE website."
