Pune: Student and mother among three booked for duping students of Rs 65.69 lakh on pretext of getting admission to MBA

Pune: Kothrud police have booked three persons – including a student from a reputed college in Kothrud area – on charges of duping his classmate and four other students of Rs 65.69 lakh on the pretext of getting their admission done in another college in Pune city. All the suspects have been booked by the Kothrud police.

A complaint has been filed in this regard by one Kunal Jindal. The suspects have been identified as Ayan Chatterjee, Amber Chatterjee and their mother Aarti Chatterjee, all residents of Ravet.

According to police, Kunal is studying in the final year of BBA course in a reputed college in Kothrud area. Ayan Chatterjee was his classmate. Ayan, after gaining trust of Kunal Jindal, had lured him into taking admission to MBA course in a reputed college of Pune. For this, Ayan claimed that his brother Amber Chatterjee was well acquainted with the head of the MBA department at the concerned college.

Kunal and some of his other friends were then lured by Amber and Ayan. They then sent a fake e-mail to Kunal and his friends in the name of the college via an e-mail link. Also, pretending to get admission in MBA, Amber, Ayan and their mother Aarti got deposited in their bank accounts a total of Rs 65.69 lakh from five students. They were also given a fake acknowledgment of acceptance and a letter of confirmation of admission.

Meanwhile, when the students inquired at the concerned college, they realized that they had been cheated. The students then went to the Chatterjee family’s house in Ravet and demanded their money to be returned. The Chatterjee family then insulted them and threatened too. Kunal and his friends then approached the Kothrud police and lodged a complaint. The case is being investigated by Assistant Inspector of Police Rahul Yadav from Kothrud police station.
