Pune: Six assailants murder man who tried to save friend from assault over past enmity

Police have arrested and identified the suspects as Pappya alias Vinod Rakesh Pawar (21), AB alias Ajay Ganesh Bhise (20), both residents of Datta Nagar in Chinchwad) in this case.

Pune: A 23-year-old man was killed by six suspects after he tried to intervene and tried to stop the assault on his friend on Saturday midnight at Vidya Nagar in Chinchwad area. Pimpri police have arrested two suspects while the other four are still absconding.

The deceased has been identified as Shankar Govind Sutar (23), a resident of Vidya Nagar in Chinchwad. Police have arrested and identified the suspects as Pappya alias Vinod Rakesh Pawar (21), AB alias Ajay Ganesh Bhise (20), both residents of Datta Nagar in Chinchwad) in this case. Shankar's mother Neela Sutar has filed a case against these suspects at Pimpri police station.

According to police, the suspects were angry over Shankar's friend over a petty dispute. The suspects had arrived at Vidya Nagar to kill Shankar's friend. They started beating him when Shankar intervened. Furious over his intervention, the suspects attacked Shankar and fled from the spot. The suspects were trying to flee to other states to evade action from police.

While investigating the case, Police Inspector (Crime) Rajendra Nikalje received a tipoff that the suspect Vinod is coming to meet someone at Buddha Nagar in Pimpri. Accordingly, a trap was laid by the police to nab Vinod. A police team led by Police Sub Inspectors Vaibhav Sonawane and Amol Kamthe, police personnel Vivek Sapkale, Anil Gaikwad, Ajinath Sarak, Shrikant Jadhav, Javed Bagsiraj, Raju Jadhav of Technical Department, Umesh Wankhade, Someshwar Mahadik, Suhas Dangare, Shahaji Dhayagude, Sanjay Kurhade, Ganesh Karpe and Omkar Bund nabbed the suspects.

Along with Vinod, another suspect Ajay was also nabbed during the police action. They were detained and brought to the police station for questioning. During interrogation, the suspects revealed that they had six other accomplices and had killed Shankar Sutar while they were having an argument with deceased Shankar's friend.

Shankar had sustained serious injuries after he was attacked with sharp weapons. He was admitted to Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial (YCM) hospital, but he succumbed to the injuries during treatment. Initially, a case of attempt to murder under section 307 of the Indian Penal Code was filed against the suspects. Police have now booked the suspects under section 302 (murder) of IPC.
