Pune: Seven private hospitals converted to dedicated COVID-19 facilities

Pune: District Administration and Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has converted seven private hospitals to dedicated Covid-19 facilities by reserving most of its hospital beds for treatment of Covid positive patients. This decision was taken in order to address the hospital bed shortage issue in view of the rising Covid-19 positive cases in the city.

These seven hospitals will now be enrolled for the Mahatma Phule Jan Arogya Yojana (MPJAY) and the Urban Poor scheme under which all expenses incurred for the treatment of patients will be reimbursed by the government or PMC to the hospital management. Patients admitted through the PMC in these hospitals can avail free of cost treatment for Covid-19 disease. PMC Commissioner Vikram Kumar issued these orders.

Earlier, the district administration had announced that 430 hospital beds in Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital, 300 beds in Ruby Hall Clinic, 40 beds in Wadia hospital and 300 beds in Inlaks Budhrani hospital have been reserved for treatment of Covid-19 patients. About 80 beds in Devyani Hospital at Kothrud, 140 beds of KEM Hospital in Rasta Peth and 120 beds to the Jehangir Hospital were already regulated by the local administration.

PMC Health Chief Dr Ramchandra Hankare and Assistant Health Chief Dr Manisha Naik said, "Patients referred through the control room and Covid care centres of PMC will be admitted in these hospitals. A nodal officer and the zonal medical officer will be appointed to monitor this process."

"Non-Covid patients currently being treated in these hospitals shall be admitted to other multi-speciality hospitals within the next 48 hours. New non-Covid patients shall not be admitted to these facilities. These hospitals will remain dedicated facilities for Covid-19 treatment for next three months," they added.
According to the new order, beds in paediatric wards have been reserved except for the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), dialysis and the day care beds.
